Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces growing in power within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.

This warrior group includes Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might seem unsuited, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing started the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows the region and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as key figures in the powerful family could assist the party reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in search of Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Questers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can expect discovering which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
